Frequently asked questions

Q: What information do you need in order to provide a quotation?

If your new worktops are replacing existing worktops, we require the back measurement wall to wall, right into the corner, if it’s an L or U-section kitchen. We are able to calculate the best way to run the join from this, taking into consideration any cut-outs etc.

If they are worktops on a brand new kitchen, then simply send a plan across to [email protected] stating:

  • Colour,
  • Sink and Hob cut-outs
  • Type of sink e.g stainless undermount, inset or matching Corian bowls, 1810 AXIXUNO colour matched
  • Drainer grooves
  • Upstands
Q: How can I view samples of the material?

We are able to do on-site consultation, whereby I will bring samples of the surfaces we offer.

Once you have whittled down to your selection I am able to order A5 sized samples to give you a better indication of the colour as a larger piece.

Q: How can I place an order?

The quickest way to place an order is to call on 07769 184 078.

We can process the order by sending over an invoice for the 50% deposit required. This can be paid by BACS transfer, Credit/Debit card on the phone, Cheque and cash.

Q: What's the difference between bespoke solid surface and other brands of solid surface?

Solid surface comes under two brackets;

Firstly, “bespoke” which is what TC Fabrications has to offer.

Secondly, off-the-shelf blank slabs of worktop at a pre-determined thickness, width and length, much like a laminate worktop, which is cut on-site by a kitchen fitter, which doesn’t always fit the kitchen or walls as well as bespoke.

With the brands of solid surface we offer, you are able to choose everything from the amount of overhang over the cupboard fronts, thickness, moulded upstands, sink position and type. It’s possible to manufacture to any size and shape and will be guaranteed to fit perfectly, as the room layout has been copied exactly onto the templates for reference back at the workshop.

Minimal cutting is performed on-site as everything has been pre-made at our workshop facility in Newport. Normally the only job left to do is to glue the join and sand and polish flush and seamlessly. This does create some dust which will settle onto the worktop after the job is complete, so there may be an amount of clearing up after we have finished.

Q: What happens at the templating stage?

To produce an accurate template we kindly ask that the area is prepared by your kitchen installer. This includes:

  • All base units and end panels are fixed in their final position
  • Any ‘void’ areas where there are no base units for support, it is necessary for the wall to be battened by 2×1 timber for support.
  • Any temporary worktops or sinks to be removed ready for templating
  • All appliances need to be on-site to be checked and dimensions taken to mark on the template.
Q: What happens during installation?

Our lead time from templating to installation is around 3 weeks. We will always endeavour to fit as soon as possible and certain times of the year can have shorter lead times. The main points are:

  • Any temporary worktops or sinks are removed prior to installation.
  • There will be amount of finishing required on site, mostly sanding of the joins etc. I use a Festool dust extractor, however some dust is released into the air so a certain amount of cleaning will be required afterwards.
Q: How do I find more information on warranties?

If you would like more information on warranties, drop me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to provide the information. Alternatively visit the Corian website. Information on Tristone, Staron, Hanex, LG HI-MACS can be found on their websites as well.
